DENTAL IMPLANTS

Do you have missing teeth, and are you afraid to smile? One solution that can improve both your smile and your mouth's structure is dental implants. See how Dr. Ehrenman can preserve your smile with quality dental implants.

WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?

Dental implants are the foundations for replacement teeth. One dental implant restoration consists of three parts:

  • The fixture that goes in your jaw.
  • The abutment that connects everything.
  • The final restoration, typically a crown.

WHAT IS THE DENTAL IMPLANT PROCESS?

The dental implant process happens in a variety of steps.

First, the dentist educates you about the dental implant and then determines whether you need a bone graft. Bone grafts take several months to heal. Whether you've had a bone graft or not, the next step is to put in the fixture that sits in your jaw. The dentist makes an incision, puts in the implant, and then allows it to fuse with your jawbone and heal completely. The healing can take a few months.

Next, the dentist will put on a temporary cap for a couple of weeks to help surrounding tissue heal. After this, the dentist places the abutment and a temporary crown on the fixture. After a dental lab has made a permanent crown, you will receive your final crown. With good dental care, your implant can last for many years.
